Welcome to the 2025 Pinewood Derby!
Scouts! Start your engines!
Pinewood schedule 2025:
December 19 - Receive derby car kit
December 26 - No meeting, car cutting available (basic outline created by scout)
January 16 - No meeting, PInewood Derby weigh-ins for finished cars
cars must be left at the church at this time (see criteria below)
January 17 - Pinewood Derby setup 6pm (adult volunteers only, if possible)
January 18 - Pack 51 Pinewood Derby! Finalists move on to county Pinewood Derby event
8am last minute weigh-ins
8:30am arrival (all)
Class A Uniforms (or Class B if you don't have a Class A yet)
Cars not approved by 8:40am will be disqualified
Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase! Bring small dollars to purchase.

Scouts will vote on the following categories:
Best Scout-Created Car (looks like a Scout created it with little or no help)
Best Car That Looks Like A Car
Best Use of Paint
Best Use of Decals/Stickers
Best Overall

Official Scout Pinewood Derby kits are given to Pack 51 Cubs at our holiday party in December. The annual schedule of events can be found below when it becomes available.
2024 Pinewood Derby includes a snack sale and a day packed with winners! Watch your email and our Pack 51 FaceBook page for any weather-related delays.
Pinewood Rules
The Pinewood Derby is an annual friendly competition where Scouts can have fun creating their own derby car!
BSA's Pinewood Derby Car Building Rules
All cars must pass the following inspection to qualify for the race:
Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
Length shall not exceed 7 inches.
Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces.
Axles, wheels, and body shall be from the materials provided in the kit. Additional wheels can be purchased separately.
Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
No lubricating oil may be used. Axles may be lubricated with powdered graphite or silicone.
The car shall not ride on any kind of spring.
The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.
No loose materials of any kind are allowed in the car.
